Stac Pollaidh

Stac Pollaidh, originally uploaded by Kenny Muir.

For anyone visiting Achiltibuie Stac Polliadh (pronounced Stack Polly) is an iconic site. You will be unlikely to forget your first view of the mountain as you drive along the narrow single track road from Ullapool.

Stac Polliadh seems a cross between a volcano and prehistoric landscape with rivulets of crumbling rock forming channels down its front. You can climb it and paths are clearly marked and well maintained. The views from the top are spectacular but it is quite hard going and steep – especially as you approach the ‘saddle’.

Walking routes and instructions can be found here.
